There is a lot of chatter about Saba Rock reopening and the new resort at Oil Nut Bay. They are great! However, our favorite fancy dinner of the week is at the Cooper Island Beach Club. It has become a favorite stop for us. Read on to know why we think it is so special.

Cooper Island is a popular first stop for charterers in the British Virgin Islands. This leads to a lot of competition for mooring balls and dinner tables. Knowing this, we take two steps to ensure we get the most out of our Cooper Island experience. First, we make reservations for the entire crew in advance. This ensures we all get to sit together for dinner. Next, we use BoatyBall to secure a decent mooring ball the morning of. This takes away all pressure and we can make the most of the day knowing we have a great evening ahead. So, go ahead and make that stop to snorkel the Wreck of the Rhone. Your evening is on your schedule!

Cooper Island is a relatively small, rocky island that has little area suitable for people to inhabit, let alone a giant power plant to power a resort. So, what did they do? Innovate! Cooper Island Beach Club is powered almost entirely by solar and renewables. All food served is organic and locally grown in the Virgin Islands. Rum is like catnip for sailors, and the resort has the best rum bar in the islands. Boasting well over 100 varieties from all over the world, they have rum for the most discerning tastes. In addition, Cooper Island has their own microbrewery for those who think life is too short to drink beer flavored water. To ensure the beer was fit for the consumption of our guests, I sampled them all. Yes, recommended! Outside, they have ample patio seating to enjoy your beverage of choice, watch the sunset, and enjoy the evening until it is time for dinner.

The Rum Bar - A Sailor's Delight!

The first time I visited for dinner, I expected the prices to be quite high. In my mind I went through a little mental list. On an island. Local organic food brought to said island. This must equal many $$$$$. However, I was shocked when prices were right in line with a nice meal on Tortola, St. Thomas, or even Spokane. The food was delicious, cocktails super, service impeccable, and all for a very reasonable price considering location. Wow! So, don’t miss this resort. Unless of course you are bypassing to go to Anegada for a week ;-)
